Cards of Love: Five of Cups Reviews

What can I say except that Trisha Wolfe never fails to amaze me. There is no putting this woman or her work in a box. She surprised me at every turn, from the all male POV,

to the sarcastic humor, to the more personal feel and the blasting of the fourth wall! She changed it up, worked her magic and had me under her spell.

With all that is different, somethings remain the same. In Five of Cups, the darkness is a bit more subtle than in her recent work but it's there and delivered in that uniquely

With all that is different, somethings remain the same. In Five of Cups, the darkness is a bit more subtle than in her recent work but it's there and delivered in that uniquely twisted, yet poetic style, I've come to love and crave from Trisha Wolfe. *shivers*

Five of Cups is an emotional and tense ride that deals with one man's attempt to move on from his grief and another man's effort to force his fate.

    It's so good!!!!!

This wasn't the normal dark we've been getting from Wolfe lately. But it was still dark and edgy. And will have you flipping the pages.

Dr. West is cocky and arrogant. And after losing is fiancé he has become a little closed off and bitter. But now that has finally opened is heart again will all that arrogance make him lose it all again? Or will the vulnerability help him realize Porter is worth laying is all on the line? How far will he go to save his best friend and the woman

There were so many twists and turns in this book I did not see coming up until the very end. I hoping with the ending we will see more of Dr. West in the near future. Hint hint!! This is one of my favorites in the Cards of Love series.

So far I’ve read a handful of the Cards of Love series, and I won’t lie to you, Five of Cups is THE BEST!!

The way Trisha writes is mesmerising. She somehow manages to throw so much information, filled with witty one liners and too many twists and turns to count, all into one book! I’m a huge fan of law and order type books and Trisha manages to go into great detail regarding West’ job, his team, even into his mind. He is a professional and my goodness, was she able to keep my eyes and my mind gl

He is a professional and my goodness, was she able to keep my eyes and my mind glued to the story the entire time!!

Trisha is the best example of a unicorn author... she can do everything! 🤩

Anyway, Dr. Ian West. He is a broken, yet functioning, sarcastic psychologist. He works for the good guys, even though he has every right to be one of the bad guys. Something happened a little while ago, his heart was ripped from his chest and was squashed under a moving vehicle.

He’s been going through the motions, working constantly within a small and intimate team. They’re working on this one case, Quentin Shaver. He’s a real piece of work! Then there’s a girl, Porter...

I’d hate to give too much away because I cannot actually tell you, for real, how bloody amazing this book is!!

You might be thinking Trisha isn’t your kind of author, or maybe tarot cards are silly. Let me tell you, you will rethink everything you’ve ever known after reading this book! The way the story flows, it’s seriousness verses the funny. The characters verses the development. Everything just fits so perfectly! I am all for a romantic book, where someone has hot sex every sixth page 😏 and I’m going to be honest with you, one sexual encounter in this whole thing and it didn’t blow my socks off. However, I didn’t even care about how he never “plunged into her moist channel” or whatever! I honestly couldn’t wait to find out what happened during court! I needed answers!!

Well, now I know. I feel like a shell of myself and I can’t wait to reread this book again. I want to know if the twists and turns-god, there were so many of them!-were obvious from the start. Was I too engrossed all the way through to miss the signs?!

To summarise my utter shambles of a rambling review above... yeah, sorry about that! 🙈😂 I just have so much to say, but I don’t even know how to say any of it! 🤷🏼‍♀️ I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! 🖤🖤🖤

I absolutely loved this book and fell in love with Ian and Porter. Both characters are very realistic and relatable. Poter with her sacrifices. Ian with his sarcasm. Both broken in their own way and finding their own ways to deal with everything that has happened. One thing I have come to love about Trisha's writing is the realism and the twists. She takes us to a place that feels tangible. A courtroom, in this case, that feels like we are a part of the whole

The fact that this is all Ian's POV is also something that I find amazing. We get all the feels from him. The who's and the why's. You can't help but feel what he feels. I, for one, hope this isn't the end for these two.

First book I’ve read by this author! If I’m honest I struggled a bit with this book but only due to that this book took more thinking on my part. I generally read books which are light and easy. I found myself having to take more breaks during reading...which I never do.

However the storyline was amazing! The characters were interesting, often blunt, sometimes witty and I was intrigued! A courtroom consultant using his psychological knowledge to help the prosecution nail a murderer! With some twists and turns in the middle of the court case. Dr West also aided in the selection of the jury members and which side they were leaning towards. There becomes a time when he feels threatened, vulnerable and angry towards the accused “Shaver”. Dr West told Mia to do whatever was needed to have the courtroom evacuated so he could speak to Shaver personally. I laughed during this scene and poor Eddies reaction. Which path will he choose?

“Grief,” Mia says, and glances at the card. “The Five of Cups denotes loss and sorrow.”

“Your back to the full ones,” Mia adds. “Looking at what was lost, instead of what you still have.”

is more thriller, suspense and mystery than romance. I’m not kidding—Ian and Porter are together

. That’s right. Once. If you’re searching for passionate romance with this novella, you won’t find it here.

However, in saying that, this quick novella is actually good for what it is. Pacing is even. Characters are multi-dimensional. Story is jaw-dropping. Writing very poetic that will draw you into its story-telling. Ending was totally unexpected and mind-boggling.

I Give this Book a 3 Star Rating

    Heat Level: 3ish

As soon as I started reading I was instantly drawn in, especially to the eerily dark poetic beginning of the Prologue.

The deeper I got into this story I gotta say I had no idea what was going to happen, couldn’t even predict and I mean that in a great way, the story just kept my attention .

West is a very likable guy and enjoyed his POV, and very reasonable.

I’m not really a fan of Porter, I personally just didn’t find her very appealing to read, she was a Give or take character.

I honestly think it would’ve been more satisfying if this was just Wests book, with no love interest. Trust me that’s saying something, Porter to me just wasn’t needed.

    That Epilogue though...I Love It!

Overall it’s a moderately good read.

It wasn’t what I was expecting, I was looking forward to a Deliciously Dark Read.
