Gaudete et Exsultate--Rejoice and be glad: On the call to holiness in the contemporary world

Pope Francis' Apostolic Exhoration " Gaudete et Exsultate" (Rejoice and be glad) involves the call to hoilness in the modern world, a topic the pope has explained in this way. "it means letting Christ work in our actions. That His thoughts may be our thoughts, His feelings our feelings, His choices our choices. This is holiness, doing as Christ did is Christian holiness." ...

Rejoice and be glad! The point of this exhortation is to reiterate the universal call to holiness. Francis states, “certainly the most decisive turning points in world history are substantially co-determined by souls whom no history book ever mentions.” YES! In a world (and a church) that seeks honor and success (admit it, this is the goal of so many people...the Church is not exempt), Francis brings us back to the fundamentals, encouraging us to holiness, helping us to me aware of the common obstacles, and giving us some tools to help us along the way. Short. Sweet. To the point. It’s exhortations like this that make me love Pope Francis.

I present to you my journal, where I scribbled down the points that mostly closely resounded with me:

I had to resist writing down every last detail.

It doesn't solve all your issues. But it offers a blueprint to holiness, to a deeper relationship with God, amidst the constant noise and distraction of today's world. It helps take you out of that noise, at least

Considero a Exortação Apostólica escrita por Papa Francisco Gaudete et Exsultate o ponto mais alto que o Papa chegou em seus escritos até agora. Uma Exortação simples, com escritos que vão direto ao coração. O chamado a Santidade é simples e universal.

Pope Francis is a real shepherd because he knows how to tend his sheep. He knows the best pasture that is the Word of God. He always urges us to be holy, in each and every book, be it in an encyclical or apostolic letter or apostolic exhortation, he speaks about our holiness. This new Apostolic Exhortation Gaudete et Exsultate, he makes another call to holiness in the contemporary world. This exhortation is really an inspiring one as every other book of the pope. Let me quote one of the sentences he mentioned in the book

We are living in a world in which the spirit of consumerism is in its full power, in such a situation pope warns us,

    again he says

Pope Francis put forward the Gnosticism and Pelagianism in its modern form, and he explains to us about the dangers we all may fall into such situations. He says, when we start to consider ourselves as having more knowledge than others in our society and try to put our knowledge to others we are falling into the heresy of Gnosticism. Again, when we consider our works are more important and we are doing many things as per the rule and just look down the people who are failing in their duties we become modern time Pelagians who consider the matter over other elements, we should always know that we can receive salvation only through his grace.

Pope Francis quoted so many examples from the lives of saints is a good factor in this book because it gives many insights to have a holy life.

His reflection on the beatitudes is another important element in this books he synthesized those eight virtues for the modern man. I am quoting those lines below,

All over this book is really a wake-up call for all humanity, as we are living without any action when there are lots of problems around us. Let us listen to call of Papa and together with him let us as to the Lord,

Thank you very, Pope Francis, for this beautiful exhortation you have given to us. We will practice it in our lives to become holy in our life.

I enjoyed this a lot. I'm going to have to read through it again and spend some more time reflecting on it. There's a whole lot to take in here. I didn't really get where he was going on gnosticism and pelegianism; I definitely see the influences in our culture but I think it could have used some more detail to explain what exactly he's referring to. The focus on holiness was really good and I think his suggestions on how to deal with the modern world are something everyone should seriously cons

I read it in Polish but checked a few places in English and Italian as they were difficult to understand. In general its not bad but I would not called it a gripping read.

I didn't like the fact it uses complicated words without real need for them. I also had problems with following some arguments eg. sections on gnosis and pelagianism. I didn't note down any eye-opening sentences as it was with Ratzinger's texts. But on the other hand it's not a piece of literature and it's a good encouragement
