Hmmm. I’m not really sure how I feel about this book. Nor can I think of what to say about it. It’s definitely a rick remender book so if you like his stuff then you will like this. 4 stars I guess.

A solid Remender book with some great art. Its action packed with an eclectic cast of villainy which made for an enjoyable read! The ending definitely made me excited for volume 2 so this will be staying on my monthly pull list.

3.5*. Remender is one of my fave writers. The story here just doesn't seem to be at the same level as his other Image series. The story seems a little simple in narrative, the dying father and villains are a little cliched and he doesnt seem to touch on any political/social issues which is normally his strong suit. The artwork is awesome and detailed. Especially the car scenes. Not the best I've read from Remender but its still an enjoyable fast paced action thriller.

Glitzy artwork like bottomless margaritas, dizzying action moves the plot, and characters that are surprisingly more than paper dolls. Subsequent arcs might frost this adrenaline cake.

Tak Seven to Eternity zatim zustava jedinou Remenderovou veci, ktera me nadchla...

Glory je akcni zalezitost, u ktery mam pocit, ze sem jednotlivy prvky uz nekde videl.

Hlavni hrdinka Glory zije v komunite truckeru, ktera funguje “off the grid”, a potrebuje sehnat prachy na tatovu operaci.

Luckily her ex is in deep with the mob and she knows about a cash drop she can heist - but things don’t go quite so peachy. I know, shocking right - who knew ripping off gangsters would land you into a whole world of hurt??

Rick Remender just isn’t a very good writer and his latest, Death or Glory, Volume 1: She’s Got You, is another sloppily-constructed story.

None of the characters were interesting. Glory is the archetypical Strong Female Protagonist, which isn’t compelling, and her quest is too virtuous - gotta save mah dying pee-paw! Oh, please. Generic, too-easy motivation. The hitman with the liquid nitrogen smacked of Cormac McCarthy’s Anton Chigurh, another psycho with an unusual method of execution, and he was pointless anyway. Speaking of pointless, Glory acquires a sidekick who doesn’t do anything besides slow her down for no reason.

I don’t buy her ex’s love for her - he’s this one-dimensional villain who’s there as a plot contrivance more than anything - and there’s a couple of Amish-looking girls included for no other reason than they looked different?

The lack of imagination and story conveniences pile up. When she needs a car, an unattended one - who also just happens to be owned by a dickhead - shows up. You know the bad guy’s a bad guy because he’s cutting people up to sell for food. And look, how agreeable to be ripping off someone who just happens to be trafficking in organs when you’re in the market for an organ! And then the corny ending with the truckers - bleurgh!

Bengal’s art is nice - I’m glad he’s sticking to the visual side of comics as he’s an even worse writer than Remender! - and there’s a lot of flashy car chases (though they’re surprisingly unexciting to read for all that).

But that’s all Death or Glory is: superficially slick-looking with a very shallow, one-note and overly simplistic story that never grabbed me. Another Rick Remender turkey!

Dang been awhile since I didn't love a Rick Remender book.

So this is about a Glory, who kind of just had enough of her life. Freedoms are being stripped from her and she decides to take control of her life. She can't save her father because she doesn't have the money and healthcare is a joke (Wow, this is pretty close to the truth now haha) And so she needs to rob and steal. So begins the mission but she isn't a trained robber and of course everything that can go wrong will go wrong.

    Good: The

Good: The art is pretty interesting, I like the design of a lot of the world and characters. Glory is a interesting enough character and her struggle with the system and it's fuck ups is good.

Bad: The characters, especially the side cast, is so uninteresting. I really tried to care but I just couldn't. I also thought the ending was full. A little too much talking about nothing in the middle. I just...I guess I couldn't connect with anyone but Glory.

Overall it wasn't horrible but I wanted to like it more and couldn't. Which is a shame, cause Rick Remender is top 5 writers for me right now. A 2 out of 5.

Having written for Image Comics since 2005, Rick Remender has produced so many titles and at this point, he has five comic books that are currently ongoing. In between these titles, Remender wrote the excellent sci-fi

, which finished after ten issues, so whether or not he has a long plan for his latest comic Death or Glory, does it stay on the road or go off the grid?
