it's no real surprise that I loved this one, although I did go into it a little more apprehensive than I usually do with MZ books. I knew nothing about figure skating other than I wasn't particularly interested in the sport, but it only took me a few chapters before I was completely in love.

I LOVE LOVE LOVED IT. Make way,

    ,

is joining you in my 're-read all over and over and over again' pile.

(If you know more figure skating/pair skating romances, please recommend them to me!). Plus, Ivan and Jasmine are my favorite MZ hero and heroine.

Talented as she is, she hasn't won a gold medal since her junior years, and with people she has attitude problems, it isn't exactly easy to find a new partner.

Only thing is she can't stand Ivan, and the feeling is mutual. Despite Jasmine being Ivan's sister's best friend, the two have been at each other's throats since they were teenagers, and the animosity stayed with them even as they grew up.

Outside the rink is fair game. But a partnership like theirs needs a strong foundation of trust in each other, and they don't trust each other at all.

. These two did not hold back at all. They can't spend time together without throwing insults at each other that the people around them don't know whether to be frustrated or entertained. There were times my chest ached and I wanted to kick Ivan where it hurts because some of the things he said were pretty sore points for Jasmine, and honestly for me, too. Jasmine's not innocent either. But all in all, it's pretty innocent; it's become a routine for them to do it that their words do not have as much heat as it sounds.

Okay, let me start with my dear Vanya.

He's different than the rest of the author's heroes. He's cocky but not to the point of being conceited, charming, and more outgoing than the previous heroes. He's affectionate and teasing, and has more to him than meets the eye. He's a celebrated athlete, but you can't begrudge him for his fame and success because you know well

. That's what makes him perfect for Jasmine.

She's confident in who she is as a person and will never pretend to be something she's not just to please others, and you know what, that's what I admired about her the most. Because of that, people often mistake it for being mean and unapproachable.

I have a similar outlook on life as Jasmine, and it hit me in the feels when I learned more about her. She's 100% focused on her career, and because of that, she's lost time she should have been spending with her family and everyone she loves.

    If you've read

, Jas was a teenager then and honestly, to me, she seemed selfish or conceited.

But as I've said, Jasmine isn't a touchy-feely person, and she's still trying to figure out how to make it up to her family all the while trying to understand her real goal in her career and her frustrations. It's one of her biggest struggles here, and we get to see how she overcomes that.

Jasmine and her mom, Jas and her brothers and sisters (plus their significant others and children), it was such a treat to read about them! You can see it in her family why Jasmine is the way she is. They're not outwardly affectionate towards each other in a conventional sense, but the strong love is obvious. They tease and hurl insults at each other but will threaten bodily harm on people who they think would hurt their brood. Special mention to James who's the best! It was so funny when he and Jas bickered. The family dynamic felt authentic, even her strained relationship with her father. And

When the two decides to become friends, it's obvious how compatible they were, and then when they started caring for each other??? AHHHH. Feels! I love it when guys are affectionate and sweet and thoughtful and

    . I can't.

is a standalone so people don't need to read

to appreciate it, but I still recommend reading DA first since it was set a few years prior to Lukov. But if you've read

already and loved them, you'll see a little bit more of #Ruron here!

! It will make you laugh, tear up, and fall in love, not just with Ivan and Jasmine, but with figure and pair skating, as well.

This was the fastest long slow burn romance book I have read by Mariana Zapata, and I have read them all...so, i would know *wink*

Mariana Zapata is my all time favorite author, she never disappoints. She knows how to write a slow burn romance and no one compares to her. I'd read her book over and over again and I'd not get tired of them.

If I were to become the Prime Minister of Canada; every citizen will be required to read all of Mariana Zapata's books. I heard reading at least one book written by Mariana Zapata will clear your skin, make you hear colors, bring world peace

and prolong your life but ssshhh you didn't hear that from me. Honestly, this is a win-win situation. You're not really losing anything .......except your social life because her books demand to be binge read.

In all honesty, Mariana Zapata's books are a hit or miss. If you go into her books with zero expectations then trust me, you won't be let down and maybe you'd join me in this fangirl club because I need more members.

From Lukov with Love, is as lovely as the cover. I was left in complete awe about how Mariana Zapata was able to hit in the feels once again. It's like her only obligation is to create books that are specfically designed to fuck me up. Well............ I'd hate to break it to you but you've already fucked me up since reading my all time fav,

. When I seen this book, I was scared that this book wouldn't live up to the awesomeness of The Wall of Winnipeg and Me and that STILL didn't stop me from going into this book with the biggest expectations. I can't help it. Expectations are attracted to me.

    but hey

✔️ i could probably re-read this book 67 times and never get exhausted

✔️ the plot is very basic and I'm pretty sure you've at least read something similar like this once in your life.

    ✔️ it has that

    trope

✔️ AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND I LOVE IT OKAY I'M TRASH FOR THIS KIND OF TROPE

✔️ even though i've read plots similar to this; It still never failed to surprise me

✔️ ssshhh i was so into this okay let me be

✔️ The plot begins when Jasmine is offered to be Ivan's skating partner for a year. This is seen as a horrible idea by Jasmine because 1) she hates Ivan 2) she hates Ivan 3) she hates Ivan. She had to suck it up because the only dream she always wanted can only be achieved.....through Ivan.

✔️ The plot focuses a lot on skating and trust me, I didn't really know that much about the sport.

✔️ I blame my lack of knowledge on the fact that my childhood memories consisted of me falling on my ass.

✔️ skating was horrible to me as a child

✔️ the ice wanted to fight me and i wasn't having it

✔️ I walked away with battle scars but hey i'm still alive :)

✔️ And don't worry, the author delivers her explanation of the sport efficiently and you won't be lost

✔️ If you somehow end up lost.....there's Google.

✔️i don't know about you but the chemistry in this book was FIREEEEEEEEEE

✔️ Living in Canada where we experience snow storms......this is a blessing

    ✔️ gimme the heat

✔️ If you love slow burn romance then that's what you'll find here.

✔️ In all seriousness, the characters were written very well

    ✔️ At first, I didn't like Ivan

✔️ I pictured him as this stuck up skinny dude who is passionate for the skating life

✔️ and I was proved wrong because he grew on me

✔️ Or more like he redeemed himself with his comebacks

✔️ but we all know jasmine's comebacks are the best

✔️ And you know I have to prove my fact that she's the best by showing you an example:

    OR

    I rest my case

✔️ We have Jasmine as our MC, who is a hot mess. She's naive, fiesty, and takes absolutely no shit from anyone.

    ✔️ except her mom

✔️ and we all know we can't treat our moms like shit unless we're asking to be kicked out

✔️ I loved Ivan and Jasmine together.

✔️ Through out the story, you witness their relationship change

✔️ At first, I was like ?? wow how do you make them fall for each other ???

✔️ Then I was like ?? wow i don't see them with anyone else but each other??

✔️ i love it like I love fries

    ✔️ her writing is addictive

✔️ i might ask mariana zapata to write my autobiography because wow

    ✔️ If you read

then you'll see everyone in this book.

✔️ Ohhhhhhhhhhh trust me i discovered this fact halfway into the book

✔️ I was mind blown because umm??? this wasn't discussed?? I was unprepared

✔️ I never knew Ruby's little sister will get her own story

    ✔️ LISTEN I AIN'T DISAPPOINTED

✔️ GIMME MORE.....but at least give me a heads up.

✔️ Oh, I loved the FAMILY DYNAMICS IN THIS BOOK OMG

✔️ If you were to search up "family goals", then you'll see Jasmine's family

✔️ I have a crazy loud family but they put us to shame

✔️ It wasn't a 5 star read for me because the slow burn romance was a bit too slow

✔️ I know it's a "slow burn" but excuse me?? does it have to be at sloth mode??

✔️ like it was the slowest slow burn romance i've ever read

✔️ I could've re-watched Game of Thrones 3 times by the time they officially got together

✔️ I'm not asking for Insta-love or anything but wow this tested my patience.

✔️ OTHER THAN THIS TINY PROBLEM I WAS PLEASED BY EVERYTHING !!

I hope you guys give this book a chance and enjoy it as much as I did <3 By now, you know what to do:

Well, I loved this movie growing up.

    LOVED it.

And when those went out, I got it on DVD.

    And when

went out, I got it on Blu Ray.

And when even THAT became SO 2014, I got it on Amazon Video.

So I can legit carry that shit around with me everywhere I go and watch the magic to my heart's content via smartphone.

I have this movie memorized backwards and forwards, folks.

I can pretty much recite the whole thing.

    And this book?

Reminded me SO much of that movie.

There were two people who came together to form a figure skating team, one of whom came from a rich family that owned their own skating rink.

They hated each other and argued nonstop.

They too had to figure out lift holds.

    They fell a lot.

And then there was the "Pamchenko Twist," the basically impossible, fictionalized figure skating move...which was mentioned in the book and executed in this movie.

So part of me has to believe that Zapata had this movie in mind or was paying homage to it in some way.

Which I am TOTALLY on board with, because I adored it.

    This thing was like a

    -fied

and it made my inner little 1992 nine year old heart just burst with happiness.

    Cause not only is

one of my favorite all time movies and Zapata one of my favorite authors...figure skating is one of my favorite sports, so this was just a joy to read all around.

Per Zapata usual, this is a slow burn and very character-driven story told from the sole perspective of our main female character and I devoured it in one sitting.

I didn't love this one as much as

, but I truly don't think that book will ever be surpassed for me, so that's really irrelevant; but I do think I might have enjoyed it even more than Kulti, although perhaps that's just a result of the aforementioned movie nostalgia factor.

    But whatever.

I enjoyed the book immensely and know other Zapata fans will too.

    ____________

This was a unique romance novel. I would even go as far as saying that this was more than just a romance novel. I will go even farther and just put it out there...

    You're confused. I know. So am I.

I mean, yes it had romantic elements to it, but this story was revolved around people finding themselves and developing and friendships and family and so so so much more. Romance wasn't even an undertone until about the 70% mark.

I was expecting a chemical and passionate story about two people falling for each other, instead I got a fiery little cracker who at first was someone I thought I wouldn't get along with, but I grew to love Jasmine. It was her story about learning to love herself as she was, forgiving and growing. And it was so successful in that.

I really think a lot of people, like me will enjoy this... I also think a lot of people will love this story for what it is - just like I have. Unfortunately, I speak for myself when I say this story just did not do it for me as a romance, but did so much more as a self journey.

The narration in this book worked in two ways for me:

The inner monologue felt odd and frankly, a bit too much at times. I loved Jasmine as a character because even though she was a bitch, and different to any other MC we usually get, she showed how she developed as a person as the story unfolded. The character development was so strong with Jasmine. Cheers to the author for showing that so well.

Furthermore, I felt like there was a lot of elements to this story that just dragged on or was all together unnecessary.

However, The banter and the budding relationship between Ivan and Jasmine was something that I loved! I laughed out loud multiple times and longed for more screen time of them just going back and forth with comebacks.

They worked so well off one and another, and that epilogue chapter actually made me smile. I'm happy for them and I would be more happy if I could see more of their relationship growing as a

. Although, I think what the intention was that for them to reach that stage of familiarity, they needed to be friends first... which in a way, I understand.

This is where things get messy for me. While reading, I could completely feel the sparks going off between both Jasmine and Ivan, and through each endeavor they faced together. Their chemistry was great. But here's the thing:

Personally, I felt like their chemistry was at a constant 'best friend' level, because both of them needed that at the time. It felt weird and odd in the last 10% for them to get together as more than just that. It felt rushed and like the author needed to get out that they were actually more than friends.

Which brings me to the fact that they only did really make a move at around 88%... When they did get together, it all felt too cringey and unrealistic because it was so sudden and anti-climactic.

It was like I was building myself up for this massive thing between them to explode and hyping myself up. Once something did happen, I kinda just looked at my kindle and went

The thing is, right now I don’t have time nor patience for this story and this heroine. I can't spend one more second in her head.
