Holy cow what a ride! Unlike ANY paranormal book I've ever read! Willow has spent her entire life with one goal in mind.... Find her sister. Torn apart at a young age thanks to the Foster system, she's desperate to find her. Using all her abilities she became a therapist.... She's been doing research for years comparing people with so-called mental issues claiming to have powers, and comparing it to how many actually have powers. How the heck was she to know it would put a giant X marks the spot on a faction of people with just those powers. STARBORN are people blessed with a variety of amazing abilities. Willow not only does research, but speaks to groups of people who think they have abilities. Using her own emotional telepathy that she keeps well hidden, she tries to discern who else might also have abilities. Lucas is sent along with rookie Granger to rescue the young Starborn in her group and eliminate Dr Willow. After all, in their minds she's putting their people at great risk. Everything turns on it's head when events transpire and Lucas quickly realizes Willow is also a Starborn!! Going against everything he stands for, he refuses the order given and brings her and the group to sanctuary. After that he has zero control... Will he be punished for disobeying? Can Willow and the others prove their abilities? And above all, what the heck is up with these feelings he has for this fiery doctor? Another rogue group of Starborn called Noctem are out to find Starborn and use them for nefarious purposes... They have no qualms about torturing these people to get what they want. It's a battle between Noctem and The Order of Orion that Lucas and Granger belong to. They want to help protect all Starborn. Both Willow and Lucas endured highly traumatic childhoods, and due to it they hold high emotional shields. Yet somehow each are drawn to the other. Take this ride and discover what's in their pasts... Will Willow find her sister? Tons of mystery, intrigue, action, political doings and romance are packed into this brilliant first of the series. I cannot wait for the next book. It will leave you wanting MORE, MORE, MORE. What a great book from this new author.

Wow! What a debut novel from Aussie author Samantha Jane. This book had it all...let me count the ways in which I enjoyed this:

Wow! What a debut novel from Aussie author Samantha Jane. This book had it all...let me count the ways in which I enjoyed this:

    1) This is my genre. I love that paranormal (or mystery or fantasy) read with romance. I say "with romance", because for the first half of the book it is there, but it is more about the world build and introduction of the characters. In the second half of the book, the romance builds more, but the world politics is still strong. I struggle these days with pure romance - so this is a perfect mix for me.

    2) A leading lady that I didn't hate. Now, I know that may not seem like strong praise....but I usually HATE the leading ladies in these books. It is nice to not hate on the "pants" character occasionally :-)

    3) Dark and brooding alpha male assassin. I don't think anything else needs to be said there :-P

    4) An interesting world build. Kind of a cross between X-men and Heroes with really blurry lines between who are the good guys, the bad guys and the pure evil guys. Throw in a secret society, some underlying politics and a mysterious source behind their powers and there is lots of room to develop and grow the overarching story line.

    5) A quick read! I devoured this so quickly and that was with a crazy weekend with lots of "Mum" things to do. Such an easy read.

    6) Some really interesting side characters that I hope will show up in later books. Eve may turn out to be a "pants" character that I actually love and the blue-haired Isobel has lots of potential. So while this book from Willow-Lukas POV is finished, the story line isn't and there are a range of side characters who can take over the mantle to give more insight into the world and the overarching story line.

    7) Samantha Jane is an Aussie author. There is not many Aussie authors in this genre and I think that should be embraced and supported.

    8) That cover is very cool! Actually that should have been point 1 :-)

    9) The price was a bargain....actually made that should have been point 1 :-P

Thoroughly enjoyed this debut novel. Now where is book 2 already?

    Wow!

This is a unique urban paranormal/fantasy if I ever read one. Let me tell you, I've been on an urban paranormal kick for quite a while and this is top notch. Seriously, no complaints at all.

There is action, adventure and romance. I absolutely love how powers are tied to the stars and the alignment of things. You can tell a lot of time and research was put into this and it completely shows. This was a smooth, fast paced read perfect for a winter weekend!

I take that back, I have one complaint.

I take that back, I have one complaint. Even though the next book won't be about the main characters in this one, that this was their happy ending. With everything that happened, I don't see how this can technically be the happy ending.

You can believe I will be reading it though.

    This is an ARC review.

There is so much packed into this book, it feels like three instead of just one. It works though, you're not overwhelmed but so caught up in the story, you don't realize how much time has passed. It's a fantastic paranormal urban fantasy with a breath taking romance.

I got this book for free on Amazon Kindle and to be honest didn't expect much at all. But holy hell, I loved it!!

The writing was amazing. The characters were real and the story was great!

Cannot wait to get into the sequel.

Starborn (The Order of Orion #1) is my first book by Samantha Jane. Her description and attention detail brought this book to life. It had me feeling as if I was one of the Starborn myself. I loved all the unique abilities her characters possessed.

She is secretly searching for her twin when a mysterious man and is partner barge into her life and through everything she thought she knew out the window.

Lucas Black has the ability to memory-wipe anyone. He is an assassin that works for the Order. A secret society that seeks out Starborn people and brings them back to the Order. They groom their prospects and push them in ways many would not agree with.

There were multiple times I wanted smack members of the Order. They are ruthless and only think of themselves. I loved how Willow opened Lucas's eyes and made me really evaluate what he wanted from life. What was right and wrong. She is not afraid of anyone or anything.

This story is pretty fast-paced and takes the reader on one heck of a ride. I cannot wait for book 2. Granger and Eve's book should be a wild ride. My hope is we get some more answers on what is really going on.

I love books involving paranormal powers, meaning I was quick to grab this read when I realised the superpowers were of the paranormal variety. There’s no Superman flying in from another planet, no Batman slipping out of his mansion to join the hero party – it’s just good old fashioned paranormal superpowers done right.

Despite my excitement, I was a little bit worried. I questioned whether I was getting pumped up, heading towards disappointment. This fear, however, evaporated quickly. There was

There was no need for me to be worried – within pages I had fallen in love with this story, and I wanted more. More of the powers, more of the world, and more of the characters.

Without a doubt, the powers were my favourite element of the story. The way in which people came into their powers was so refreshing. It was something different, and I’m always willing to try something new. How the powers develop was also a lot of fun. Throughout, we got to find out enough to keep us engaged, yet there is still plenty more we wish to find out. We know what to expect in terms of power categorisation, but there are so many potentials for where individual powers could lead.

Add that into where the story could lead and there are so many possibilities. The world building in this one was wonderful, introducing us to so much. As with the powers, though, there is still plenty more to find out. It’s a solid first book in a series – it introduces the major points, while leaving you wanting more – and I cannot wait to see how everything comes together. There is drama between characters, bad guys are introduced, and references are made to a much bigger world outside of what we were introduced to. It was plenty to whet the appetite to ensure you’d be back for more.

I can assure you, you will be back for more. If the superpowers and world building were not enough to win you over, then the characters will. Although this book tells the relationship between two of the characters, so many characters are introduced and you know they will be important in the future. I cannot wait to see how the stories of the other characters play out – not just their romantic stories, but I want to know where their powers and choices lead them. The cast was so much fun and I cannot wait to visit them again.

While I did enjoy this book a lot, I was surprised by what my least favourite element was. I love a good tutor and mentee romance, yet the romance was my least favourite part of the story. I think I was so sucked into everything else that I never reached the level of fangirl over the relationship that I had hoped to. It was still a fun romance story, I cannot deny the characters went well together, but it wasn’t my favourite element of the story.

Overall, I loved this one. The ending will certainly have you grabbing book two, wanting to see what comes next.
