    !

This has to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2013. After the last desperate and devastating few chapters of This Man, we’ve all been waiting with bated breath for more Jesse & Ava. The second book of a trilogy is traditionally the weakest, it’s neither a beginning or an end and can often be just filler but that is NOT the case here. This book just blew me away, I

it and I am now bereft that it is over and can’t wait for the third book to be able to finally conclude this intense and overwhelming romance.

We left Jesse & Ava in the depths of despair at the end of This Man. Both of them are broken by what has happened and their relationship is seemingly in ruins. They’re both in pieces and wrecked and, Jesse especially, hell-bent on self-destruction. This was done so very well – their broken hearts and intense overwhelming sadness leap vividly to life right off the page and their despair is palpable. They’re just lost without each other.

As they move beyond these events and attempt to get their relationship back on track I couldn’t help feel that their connection was one of the most intense and most emotional that I think I’ve ever read in romantic fiction. I so wanted them to sort out their differences, to be open and honest with each other and to find that Happy Ever After that’s constantly drifting ever so slightly out of reach. I read with a big grin, loving every minute that they were together and then again always with that ever-present worry that Jodi Ellen Malpas was going to rip the rug out from under us with some unforeseen complication and plummet them back down into the darkness. It’s a story of unbelievably wonderful highs followed by despondent lows.

Jesse is back in all his arrogant, alpha, dominant controlling glory with sleepy sex, sense fucks, reminder fucks and now even retribution fucks. The steam factor in this book is off the charts

The normally strong dominant playboy has been reduced to a frightened desperate soul by the intensity and depth of his feelings for Ava. He’s lived a hedonistic lifestyle until the moment he met her, he’s never cared for the multitude of women that he’s had physical relationships with and was fairly self-destructive not caring whether he lived or died. Now Ava has burst onto his horizon and he can hardly see straight, he loves her so much. He’s terrified that he’s going to lose her, that someone will take her from him and she brings out all his extremely over-protective instincts. He’s a troublesome, neurotic rogue and there were times that I wanted to scream at him, bang his head against a brick wall to knock some sense into him – he made me crazy. Ava too. I was just rooting for them to find a happy balance – an equilibrium that would ultimately ease their troubled souls but they’re so deeply connected to one another, body and soul, they have the power to absolutely destroy one other.

Ava continues to be a wonderful heroine that you can truly believe in. She’s as overwhelmed as Jesse by her feelings and is completely bowled over by him. She’s a feisty soul and despite Jesse’s dominant presence manages to win some of their battles. She’s strong and independent and doesn’t take well to Jesse trying to micro-manage her life to the nth degree and it makes for a tortuous path as they argue and dispute every little aspect of their life together only to make up with seriously hot

steamy bedroom action! Ava feels a connection to Jesse that she has never felt with anyone ever before and he makes her ecstatically happy and allows her to feel safe at the same time as driving her totally barking mad.

Beneath This Man is a beautiful, captivating, conflicting, tortuous romance that had me completely consumed by their story. I was totally absorbed by the words on the page, everything else just faded into the background as I lost myself absolutely in their fictional world, falling more and more in love with Jesse with every chapter. There’s just something so open and engaging about what is passing between them. It’s also funny as we get to see the little quirks of character from This Man building and growing giving you the reader a feeling that you’re getting to know this central duo so very well. They feel like friends. There’s also a great host of secondary characters with poor Clive, the much abused concierge at Lusso, John an absolute pillar of strength at The Manor and Kate and Sam and all of Ava’s riotous friends and colleagues.

As I was lucky enough to be one of the earliest to read this, I got asked over and over the same questions – how old is Jesse, how did he get that scar, did he sleep with Sarah, and more. All I can say is – you’re just going to have to read the book. I know you’re all desperate to know but you don’t really want me to tell you. You’ll want to experience it for yourself just the way the author intended.

So, this was my first 5 star read of 2013 and an absolutely stunning continuation of the This Man trilogy and I can’t wait to get my hands on book 3. If you liked This Man, you’re going to absolutely love Beneath This Man. If you enjoy your romance on the angsty, emotional and intense side then this book is most definitely for you.

5 stars super steamy and very special erotic romance

I am not sure where to start. Perhaps with this, Ms. Malpas,

    After how

ended, I was chomping at the bit to get my hands on

. I was put through the ringer with the first book so therefore I really was expecting no less from Ms. Malpas with book 2.

I was not only put through the ringer with

    ,

And, I'm bloody exhausted. Bravo, Ms. Malpas!

    picks up five days after

ends off. Jesse and Ava were left heart broken and their relationship had despairingly ended. Ava is in pieces and Jesse is well on the way to self-destructing. Ms. Malpas did not mess around here. You can not help but feel how broken and overwhelmingly sad Ava is.

. Anyways, Jesse's friends come to Ava for help and so ensues the beginnings of their reconciliation. We are then led on a path of ups and downs, make-ups and break-ups, sense fucks and reconciliation fucks and everything in between.

What Jesse and Ava had in

was intense. What they have in

goes beyond that. Their already powerful bond is amplified as Ava learns more about Jesse. Albeit, not very much more as he is a bundle of secrets and contradictions. I don't think I have ever felt so strongly about a fictional couple. Jesse is so bat-shit crazy and Ava is all over the place, but somehow in all the madness you can't help but love them and want them to get their HEA. Admittedly, go into this book with eyes wide open. There are a lot of complications, many fights, copious amounts of "fucking" and some moments so tender-hearted and sweet you will be swooning. There were so many moments in the book that I would think - "Finally! They are both getting their act together." Then, Ms. Malpas would push me off the plank and I would once again be in the raging waters of Jesse and Ava's tumultuous relationship. What a ride! I did almost through my poor kindle numerous times. Almost. I would not do that to my beloved kindle.

I though Jesse was a crazy ass in book 1; however, he surpassed even my expectations of him and we truly see him in all of his dominant, arrogant, opinionated and alpha-male glory. There's no way I would have predicted just how broken, self-destructive and desperate Jesse truly is. He has been reduced from a strong and sexy playboy who lived a life solely based on carnal pleasures to a frightened and desperate man who is afraid of the intensity and depth of his feelings for the woman who has walked into his life. Jesse has never had a connection with a woman that went beyond the physical so these feelings are literally scaring him to death. Jesse is afraid and he is unable to process how someone like Ava can love him and

him. He becomes extremely over-protective, and over-bearing because he just can't handle the thought of losing Ava - the one good thing that has happened to him. I was seething at so many points in this book as Jesse's actions became crazier and more neurotic. How can these two despondent and troubled individuals find happiness with each other when all they do is destroy one another?

Ava was someone that challenged me as much as Jesse did. I so desperately routed for her during those times where she would begin to get more assertive with Jesse. Then, Jesse would be Jesse and he would trample all over her. I hated that she allowed it and I did get tired of her always succumbing to him and his need to resort to sex. Despite all this, I think I fell more in love with Ava in this book. Frankly, she has found herself in a relationship with an impossibly possessive and crazy alpha-male. What's a girl to do? Ava does hold her own at times and we see her win some of the many battles. She fights for her independence and, at the same time, has to deal with her all consuming love and need towards Jesse. It's a balance that I am unsure she has yet to achieve by the end of

    .

I was absorbed, enthralled and engrossed completely and utterly from the first page to the end of

    . Like

, it is a book that was so intense and powerful that it will stay with me always. I was utterly lost and transfixed in Jesse and Ava's world and I experienced so many emotional ups and downs too numerous to count. Ms. Malpas threw so much at us and the moment near the end where we see more of where Jesse is coming from,

! This is why I am hopelessly addicted to this series. This is also why I will be on pins and needles anxiously awaiting the third and final book in this angsty and intense trilogy. What an intense ride. I need to mellow out and drink some wine.

    Oh yeah... and Sarah....

  • SueBee★bring me an alpha!★

, Mr. Sexy, Bossy, Compulsive and Secretive Extraordinaire,

. Their story is filled with covert pasts and hidden agendas! It’s truly a wild, bumpy and emotional ride loaded with intrigue and shockers, undiluted lust and mind-bending sex plus a compulsive and intense love. Be prepared to be swept away by their story!

picks up just days after the shocking cliff-hanger ending of book 1. Jesse and Ava have lots to overcome and uncover. For starters

, faltering between needing and demanding to know and not standing up enough for herself. Add to that their intense, co-dependent feelings and addictive sexual attraction and throw in

and you have a heck of a roller-coaster. Strap on your seatbelts, or should I say handcuff yourself to something…

is just what I needed. In fact he is everything I needed! He truly is all pure, sexy, unadulterated bossy alpha!

    Six words to describe

I’d also like to extend my sincere thanks for introducing us to

(or fucks depending on the mood):

is everything that Jesse needed and everything we needed to keep the story going. She stood up to him, she succumbed to him, she riled him, she created more drama and she kept the mystery and story going by NOT demanding answers.

    Six words to describe

As I’m coming down from all that is

I find myself staring into space. What an a.m.a.z.i.n.g. read! I think I am going to need some sense knocked back into me – seriously!

Ugh, actually what I need is book 3,

. What a relief it’s about to be released!

Im not sure about this book yet, Im giving it 4 stars I may change to 5...Ava got on my nerves quite a bit, but mainly the rating would bc of the steamy scenes...

Jesse is quite controlling and a tad immature in this book, but all his creativity regarding the sex in their relationship kind of balances my liking him.

They are at it like 90% of the story, and the other 10% is filled with drama at the Manor, at the PH, at the club. We finally find out how old Jesse really is :)

    The sex is awesome, but

First of all, since I haven't been able to put casting photos in my review of This Man, I'm gonna do it here, so:

First of all, since I haven't been able to put casting photos in my review of This Man, I'm gonna do it here, so:

    :

I didn't think Jesse Ward can be more crazy but in Beneath This Man, the guy introduced us to a whole new level of CUHRAZY. It's bordering DELUSIONAL.

I didn't know how I managed to finish this one when the entire time I was reading, I was like this:

I'm so close to throwing and smashing things I see because this book is just UGH. INFURIATING.

Here's a breakdown of all the things that happened in this book (

    ):

But, I didn't include the parts I did love in there.

This Man taught us the types of fvck. Beneath This Man added few types namely:

--c/o Ava (I really love this scene: PAYBACK TIME!!!)

Is Jesse still the same? Oh no. He's worse! He's more crazy than ever. And he messed up a LOT!!! And oh, we get to find out his

Yeah right, I found myself asking:

    tsk tsk *shakes head*

AVA AVA AVA...I don't know what I feel about her. She easily succumbs to what Jesse wants her to do. Like really? I don't know if I want to strangle her or I want to strangle her.

Now, if you're asking me why I didn't love this as much as I loved the first book, that's because in the first book, all of the things they did were new to me, and in this book, where they all did practically the same thing as in the first book, I was kinda like: MEH. DEJA FUCKIN' VU.

I think the book tends to be repetitive, but still I kept on going, and at about 80-ish% onwards, the book made LOTS of progress. Things got more intense and I loved it!

The thing about Ruth Quinn though

UGH, IDK what to think anymore. All I know is we'll have her on the 3rd installment.

And of course, our resident bitch Sarah makes a comeback in this book. I know you all love her, I know I do. LOL. JK.

Oh girl, the things I wanna do to you (and trust me, you won't like 'em) so can you just please:

    SHOO! SCRAM! SKEDADDLE!

coz seriously, you're getting on my nerves. I just can't understand why Jesse isn't getting rid of her after everything she did. DITCH HER, ASSHOLE!

I won't really mind if she gets killed on the next book. *grins*

So, if you're gonna ask me if I'm gonna read the third book, I say:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Okay, I seriously need to get myself checked coz I don't think my sanity's still intact. I'm officially drained.

This book brings out the best in me...

Thank you very much Ava and Jesse!

    Actual rating:

    REVIEW/RANT DONE! UGH I'M EXHAUSTED!

I could not like Jesse in this book......his actions were pretty scary.....he lies to Ava about a lot of important things...those are not little white lies......he manipulates her......he stalks her.....he checks up on her....

    .interrupts her business meetings.....STALKER....STALKER....NOT MUCH............

At first, I thought....finally, Ava is showing some backbone.........maybe it's true...after all, she handcuffs Jesse to the bed post and leaves him to stew......

And then what happens next???? Oooh, Jesse, Jesse

....So forgive me if I don't feel sorry for you.......when you say things like this.....

And just as fast as I can......forget those thoughts......rather......I just love sex with Jesse.....so think I will just give in to him..........Pleeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

hell, this woman, Ava, drove me absolutely bonkers!!!! I wanted to jump into the book and give her a piece of my mind..............like something like this...

I like well-written sex scenes that form part of the story........but how much is enough sex scenes....

And for heaven's sake........what about carpet burn.......but no, this does not happen in fiction darlings........and no, Jesse Ward does not need Viagra for those hundreds and hundreds and more hundreds of sex times with sweet little Ava...

This book could have been cut in half.....there was so much repetition that I found myself skimming a lot of pages.

Truthfully...........I'm become a bit "enthusiastic" about this series, so I probably will read book #3......much to my dismay!!!!

Apparently, I’m a glutton for punishment. Me and this book/trilogy are not friends. Not at all. It's like a train wreck—I don't want to look, but can't stop myself.

Only five short days have passed since Ava left Jesse, and her entire world has ended. She’s depressed and having a meltdown, reminiscing about her epic love—you know, her month-long relationship with Jesse.

Of course, this being only the second book, it stands to reason that their separation won’t last long,

Of course, this being only the second book, it stands to reason that their separation won’t last long, and, just like that, they’re back together. Shocked? Yeah, neither am I.

Not much has changed. Jesse is still a domineering, overly possessive, control freak…times infinity. He’s a stage-five clinger. He continually wants all of Ava’s time and attention, wanting her to spend every second with him all day, every day. She’s a possession, a toy that he refuses to share. Nothing about this behavior is sexy. It’s scary. Jesse is a psycho.

Pot, meet kettle. Kettle, meet pot. Jesse treats Ava as if she were a misbehaving child. Ava is a grown woman. She doesn’t need this man-child correcting her language. As usual, however, Jesse has absolutely no regard for Ava’s feelings. He does want he wants, when he wants. On the other hand, Ava has the backbone of a spineless chicken, so it’s no wonder Jesse tramples all over her.

Oh, and don’t worry. Jesse’s not an alcoholic.

    Except that he is.

Alcoholism, or any addiction, really, is a life-long recovery, and something a person has to work hard at every day. It doesn't just simply go away on its own. The narrative would have readers believe that Jesse doesn’t “need” alcohol, ignoring the fact that it was made clear, on more than one occasion, that he can’t stop once he starts. That’s a problem, one made even more apparent when he drinks himself into a coma.

Unfortunately, everyone in this book is in denial.

And then, of course, Ava puts the blame on herself.

That last quote was from a scene that made me rage. In an idiotic bid to get Jesse see her point of view, Ava has some random man at the Manor whip her back raw—you know, the same way that Jesse had Sarah whip his. Why would he go to Sarah with such a request, you might ask? The answer is simple: to stop himself from drinking. But, wait, he doesn’t have a problem, remember?

These two idiots deserve each other. Truly.

As if we didn’t already know, Jesse is

trying to knock Ava up—against her wishes, no less—to trap her into staying with him. He makes her tell him repeatedly that she won’t leave him, not that he’d ever let her, but her word isn’t assurance enough for him. Because Jesse is an insecure lunatic, his solution is to bring a baby into their dysfunctional and extremely unhealthy relationship. Brining a baby into an environment like that is outrageous. Even after Ava finally puts the pieces together, she lets it slide, just like everything else.

I didn’t think it was possible, but I stand corrected. Ava is an even bigger pushover than she was in the last book. Arguing with Jesse is a complete waste of time. She gives in as soon as he gets his hands on her. Jesse is a bully and tramples all over her. She knows this, and still, unbelievably, allows it to happen. I just can’t with her. She’s a moron.

Jesse is also guilty of the following, none of which are even remotely okay: hiding Ava’s birth control pills, using sex as a weapon to get what he wants, and invading and taking control of Ava's personal and professional life. This doesn’t even begin to cover all the lying and manipulation, both in and out of the bedroom. Oh, and we can add cheating to the list, as well.

And then there’s Kate. Who needs enemies when you have a friend like her? I’m sorry, but she’s a terrible friend. She’s secretive, willing to hide things from her so-called best friend on Jesse’s behalf—information that pertains to Jesse and his private life—not because she knows that Jesse is a good guy, but because he bought her a new work van to keep her quiet about what she knows about the kind of business he operates.

I wans't a fan of the writing. It was pedestrian and bland. The book could also use a good editor. Almost all the dialogue tags were punctuated incorrectly, with periods at the end of the dialogue where commas should've been used instead. I'm of the opinion that if one is going to put their book out on the market for people to buy, then it should be properly edited.

When did this turn into a paranormal romance? Human eyes do not turn black when one is angry. Just saying.

Sex, fighting, and more sex. That's about all this book had to offer. We did eventually learn how old Jesse was. Not that it mattered, because he sure as hell didn't act his age. He was prone to acting like an adolescent. We also learned some things about his past sexual encounters.

So, as you can see, alcohol wasn't his only problem. As far as any real plot progression went, that was the extent of it. In between the excessive amount of sex scenes, there wasn't much of a story at all.

I don't know if there was a deep hidden message in this book, you know, some kind of deep meaning that I didn't get. But if there were, I could only come to the conclusion that my brain isn't developed enough to comprehend the value of it.

Let me tell you what I do know. I now know why the author chose the name

, and it's because this 'story' is about a man walking all over a girl's life, self-esteem and dignity and ripping every ounce of rational thought out of her head (and I do

Let me tell you what I do know. I now know why the author chose the name

, and it's because this 'story' is about a man walking all over a girl's life, self-esteem and dignity and ripping every ounce of rational thought out of her head (and I don't mean it in the good way). This woman has literally put her life

her 'feelings' for this man, a man that deserves nothing else but to be left to rot in a pile of flesh-eating bugs.

Even though this book is completely plotless and filled with crappy dialogues, there is a great variety when it comes to humiliation and abuse. At the very beginning of the series we have this girl who is portrayed to be relatively normal--you know, she is young, she is fairly successful in what she does. Yes, she is out of a bad relationship, but haven't we all been like that at some point? Then this guy comes along and smashes everything for her. He literally takes her life away from her by dickmatizing her--he makes her a slave to the cock, girls, and you know it.

But it gets even better in

. He is literally telling her how she is supposed to live her life. He wants her around him all the time, so that he can fucking control every damn second of her life. And if he were reading this, he would simply say

Now, probably every girl on this planet loves the alpha-male and/or the bad boy. Women just feel the need to be protected, you know--it's pretty natural and I accept it. What I cannot accept, however, is how on earth is it possible for women to like this book altogether. This is a book about a woman being ordered around, told and forced what to do, not about a woman who is loved. And if you still think that you are about to read a love story, you should simply get it out of your heads. This is not love; this is all about a girl becoming obsessed with a guy's dick. And even though a lot of Jesse's actions are explained through his supposed love to Ava, I cannot feel the love in the air. What I feel is a woman's desperation to be with a person who is manipulating her with sex. To be honest, I was very happy when she somehow grasped it at one point, but unfortunately this insight didn't last long.

I think that I could best describe this book by using the author's own words:

To sum it up--no self-respecting woman that is sane, not under chemically induced coma or drugged should like this book. Because liking this book automatically means that you would enjoy going through all of the shit described in this book. Oh yeah, and then rate it 5 stars.
